Questions to the guardian

Respondent A, located in Japan

Q: Why did you want your child to take TOFAS?

A: This was right when he was about to graduate from elementary school, and I wanted to check how much of what he had learned thus far had stuck with him. The fact that we did not need to go to any testing site, but could take the test online in our own home, was also an attractive point for me.

Q: What were the benefits of taking the TOFAS assessment test?

A: At school, there are almost no opportunities to ask teachers about the details of how well he is learning. And since there are no specifics listed in report cards either, I had no idea how well academic skills were sticking with him.
The TOFAS results graphs and analysis result comments are very helpful in assessing my child's academic skills. They are simple and easy to understand, and my child understood them himself without needing a parent to explain them.
Moving forward, there might be more and more opportunities to take tests over a computer. This was his first time to take a test on a computer, so the test also served as a way to help him become used to using it. And he even got a passing certificate, so he had a very strong feeling of accomplishment.

Questions to the child

Q: How did you feel about taking the test?

A: I was a little nervous because this was the first time I had ever used a computer to take a test, but the process was very easy to understand, and I did not have any problems.

Q: What did you think when you saw your TOFAS results?

A: I thought I was bad at calculating, but my results were better than I had hoped for, so I felt good about that.
There was detailed advice for the "areas that need improvement" in the analysis result, so that was very helpful. I have been applying that to my studies since.

Questions to the guardian

Respondent B, located in Thailand

Q: Why did you want your child to take TOFAS?

A: I learned about TOFAS by getting information from other mothers at the international school we use, right when I was already thinking that I would like to know more about my child's academic skills.
I decided to have her take the test because she could do it online at our home, and because I thought that if she were to pass it, that might come in handy when she takes entrance exams after returning to Japan. I also felt that being able to compare to fundamental academic skills in countries worldwide was unique, and a definite plus for us.

Q: What were the benefits of taking the TOFAS assessment test?

A: This was her first time taking a test on a computer, but there were no problems, and she was able to take the test without any hitches. Taking a test on a computer was new and exciting to her, so she was very thrilled to be able to do it, and she was able to get used to tests that involve finishing the questions within a set time period. I liked all of those things.
The speediness of being able to find out the assessment test results one week afterwards, and in addition to the fast turnaround, the results were also very detailed. This was immensely satisfying. The feedback was quantitative and qualitative, and the result charts and graphs, and the comments, were all very easy to understand.
